Star Trek Box Set only $49 at Amazon.ca

by Pravin on May 6th, 2008 in shopping.

Star Trek Season 1 is only $49 at Amazon.ca. That’s the Canadian Amazon, but they do ship to the US.

Don’t worry about the exchange rate, because Canadian and US dollars are about the same.

Don’t worry about shipping, because even if it cost $20 or $30, this is still an amazingly good deal. (Shipping is actually closer to $10)

This box set normally went for around $130 on a good day and is currently selling for about $96 at the US store.

Go!

UPDATE: Pay with your American Express card and use code MAPNEWNCSAVE to save an additional $10. Try VISA10OFF40 with a Visa card. Seems that the codes aren’t working for everyone, but it’s worth trying. You might want to try doing it with a new Amazon.ca account.

I tried the code at first & it did not work. I then tried the second code & it worked. I used a Visa card. Great Deal!

Wow! This was an awesome deal and pretty fast shipping - received within 10 days and the Visa code worked for me when I signed up for a new ca acct. So it was less than $50 total. I’ve been looking for this on Ebay for quite some time and never saw it go for much less than $90 - and the set got to me in great shape and is an awesome collection for a true Trekkie. HD-DVD may not be the format for HD anymore, but as long as you have a player, this will work for you, even includes the standard DVD on the other side, so it’ll work either way. Long live HD-DVD :-) or should I say live long and prosper!

I just checked today and the price has risen (greatly) to CDN$ 129.95.

    Deal is back.

Ordered the box set of combo discs today for just under CAD$50 using VISA10OFF40 code. The code was not recognized initially with an error message, but then appeared in the cart on the final pre-submission page. Amazon account from U.S. works on the Canada website, but you may need to re-enter your credit card info. Exchange rate is favorable today and looks like it may trend a little better tomorrow even. Not sure what I will get charged for the currency conversion.

This is a great buy. My HD DVD player will love them and I will always be able to play them back on any regular DVD player too. Combo discs rock!

It took exactly one week for it arrive at my doorstep (I am located in the midwest U.S.). The price has since gone up to CDN$ 155.99. Ouch!

For others still interested in getting the Star Trek TOS season one remastered DVD/HD DVD box set at a decent price, ezydvd.com.au (”Australia’s largest online DVD store”) has it for AU$49.83, or AU$45.30 for international customers (no GST). Looks like they charge AU$5.50 for 1 item shipped internationally. So AU$45.30 + AU$5.50 = AU$50.80 = US$48.70. That is a better price than I paid. However, I did not see any info about region coding (there is no region coding on HD DVD, but most DVDs are artificially marked to playback on players from one region).

At Amazon.ca, the box set has come down again. This time to CDN$ 54.95

ezydvd has added a special charge for this now:

    ]] Attention International Customers
]] This title will incur a $20.00 shipping & insurance charge in addition to the international price.

So the current price at Amazon.ca seems like it would the best if you are international (especially if you can get one of the codes to work). If you’re in Australia, then ezydvd wins out.
