Another of the summer’s big hits is coming to HD DVD this Christmas, and this time it’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The previous Harry Potter movie has already been out on HD DVD in Europe, but not yet in North America. Back when the recent book came out, Warner had announced a box set of all of the Harry Potter movies, and this time they got a little more specific about the most recent movie of the batch.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix arrives December 11 on HD DVD, Blu-ray, and DVD. As they’ve done with other high-profile movies, Warner makes the HD DVD version a little more interesting than the other formats by providing a few HD DVD exclusives such as Picture-in-Picture commentary by members of “Dumbledore’s Army,” a way to assemble your favorite scenes, and some web-related enhancements.

Bonus materials include deleted scenes, a short documentary, the usual behind-the-scenes shorts, “Trailing Tonks” feature, and a “Fun and Games” where the director and editor guide you through editing a scene.

Amazon.uk information for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire indicates that movie basically got DVD audio. However, that disc came out last year when this kind of thing was harder to complain about, and I’m hoping that Warner does not skimp on the audio for this latest one.

The first three movies haven’t been adapted to high-definition yet, and information on the box set of all five movies should be coming soon. So far, I’ve heard that it will include over 2 hours of bonus material, collectible trading cards, a Hogwarts Challenge game, and will retail for $150.

Links for pre-ordering will be posted as soon as they become available are now available!

UPDATE: At $4.47B the Harry Potter franchise of movies has just surpassed the $4.44B total for all 22 James Bond movies and $4.23B for Star Wars. With two more movies to come, the series promises to be the biggest selling of all time.

Can’t wait for this on HD DVD.

the 1-5 box set is tempting, but the $150 price tag isn’t.

hopefully it’ll be cheaper at amazon.com

I often see comments on how much a mocie or collection costs and I always sort of agreed with them. But I recently went to the movies with my daughter and it cost me $50 just for the tickets and drinks and some candy! When you think about it $150 for all the Harry Potter movies that she will watch MANY times is actually a comparative bargain!

some movie collections or boxed sets are worth the price.

    like this one.

well, on amazon it might be like $100, which will deffinitley be worth it.

but when i got “heroes” on HD DVD for $70, i was more than happy to pay the price since it’s 23 episodes, which is about 19 or 20 hours of HD viewing right there.

Why is harry potter 4 out on hd dvd in europe and not in the us. I was wondering because they show you on the previews in the
beginning of every WB hddvd clips from that movie

The only reason I can think of is that the UK is Harry Potter’s home territory and thus Europe gets the disc first. For example, Europe gets Order of the Phoenix a month earlier than the USA. But I can’t figure out why there had to be a delay of several months for Goblet of Fire. The Harry Potter movies are released globally within a few weeks of each other in each region, so regional delays don’t explain it.
