February 28: Last Day for the 5 Movie Rebate

by Pravin on February 28th, 2008 in news.

February ends on the 29th this year, but something very, very important ends today, February 28: the 5 Free Movies mail-in rebate.

February 28 is the date that your qualifying HD DVD player purchase must show on its receipt in order to be eligible for the 5 free movies offer. All models of Toshiba’s HD DVD players, including the HD-A3, HD-D3, HD-A30, HD-A35, as well as the Xbox 360’s add-on drive are included in this offer. At the recently lowered pricing on these machines, especially the HD-A3 and 360’s drive, this rebate works out to be a really great deal.

In the case of the A3, D3, A30 and A35, HD DVD players, you end up getting two more movies in the box which nets you 7 movies total. The 360’s add-on drive comes with a remote control, and King Kong, and you end up with 6 titles in the end.

Also qualifying for this offer are several models of Toshiba Qosmio and Satellite laptops that include HD DVD drives in them.

You get to pick 5 movies from the following list of 15:

You have until March 31, 2008 to mail in your rebate, but do yourself a favor and mail that paperwork in as soon as possible. You’re already cutting it close by waiting until today, so don’t press your luck a second time. And finally, don’t forget that this offer will not be renewed because Toshiba has pulled the plug on HD DVD player production. After today, you only have the rest of March to find players wherever you can, and they’re likely to disappear after that except in the world of eBay and their kind.

Nice reminder! I picked up a second HDDVD player from Costco last weekend ($79.99). Came with Bourne Identity and Supremacy; and HDMI cable..

I don’t know if I’ll ever get my movies from them. I bought the XBox HD-DVD player the first week of December and sent the form in the next day and I still don’t have my movies. I’ve called them twice over the last two weeks and they said they got it and I qualified. I should be receiving my movies soon. It’s ridiculous, I bought a Blu-ray player in January and got my movies from them about 3 weeks later. Good luck to those who buy a player today.

Jeff, have some patience. I know the wait is agrravating, but you will get the movies. It took 13 weeks for me to get my free discs. (Bought my HD-A2 in September, got my movies in January.) From what I’ve read elsewhere, 12 weeks is about average. So you will get them, it just takes longer than it says on the rebate form.

Jeff, here’s the thread at the AVS forum where lots and lots of people have been venting over the months about their successes and failures with the rebate program:

    http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=934479

It took a long time for me to get my movies, and they even made a movie substitution on a title. I hope it was a substitution based on that title’s availabilty and not an error.

I hate mail-in rebates. I much prefer the kind where the discount or promotion happens at the time of purchase.

That’s good to know I’m not the only one. It’s really sad that I bought a blu-ray player over a full month after my hd-dvd and I got those movies in just under 3 weeks, even after the Christmas rush I’m sure they got.

  6. Rick Deckard Says:

Still waiting for my “rebate” movies. And don’t expect to ever get them. Maybe they could refund some of the $180 I spent on the Xbox extension instead? :)

quick question so if you brought a player on the 28th can you still get this offer, because i just brought mine on the 28th for 50 bucks, so i am hoping i can still get this deal.

  8. Pravin Says:

Yes, buying it on the 28th means you can get the offer. Buying it on the 29th means no offer.

Make a copy of your materials and mail everything in immediately so that you don’t somehow lose or forget to take action by March 31.

  9. rob Says:

When you mail in the required paper work how do you know if you qualify are not for those free HD DVDs. Can you call or email anybody.

  10. Pravin Says:

rob – the rebate form has a phone number on it: 1-800-405-7520 that you can call to track the progress of your rebate. I’m not sure how accurate they are, because I’ve read at the AVS forum about people who were told to wait a couple of weeks and got their discs the next day, as well as people who were told that things were going great but discs were still delayed.

i guess i will give it a week or two and then give them a call, thanks for all your help
