Catching Up On the October Deals

by Pravin on October 17th, 2008 in shopping.

The “HD DVD Index” would have solidly outperformed its Wall Street counterparts these last couple of weeks, with prices hovering solidly around the $11 point, instead of swinging through wild ups and downs.

The last big noteworthy sale was from Amazon who had a 66% off sale on 122 titles featuring many Warner discs at $9.99. If you visit what’s left of that sale today, the selection has dwindled to about 40 discs. Amazon solves that problem with a recent sale on about 100 discs, mostly Universal Studios titles, at $10.99.

Also interesting is a “while supplies last” sale on Transformers over at iNetVideo, for $3.99 and $2.95 shipping.

And if you’ve got a Fry’s Electronics or two in your part of the world, then check out their aisles and displays for some deals starting at $5.99.

Below is the list of 122 discs on sale at Amazon for $10.99:

A german import of Death Proof?? Hmmm… Interesting…

There is no indication anywhere on amazon.de that this title will be released as HD-DVD. It was there before, and I placed an order for it, but it was canceled by amazon. I wish this was true, but I think it is not. The same thing happened with Trainspotting as hd-dvd: canceled by amazon.uk.

This is very interesting if anyone gets anymore info please post it here as i wouldn’t mind picking this one up if it’s true.

It’s been rumored for quite some time now that the discs may have already been pressed. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

i just bought up about ten titles I had wanted but was waiting for free shipping to buy them up. Great deal - 10 movies for under $60.00. I wonder how many Blu Rays can you get for that price.

  8. Rick Says:

    2

  9. Charles "The Innovator" Says:

Well I will keep investing the tried & true format that is still True HD for a fraction of the cost.

You can actually get 4 blu ray’s for about 12.50 each with Amazon’s buy 2 get 1 free sale going on now. Depending on which titles you get and the prices. Terminator 2 is only 11.95, so i added that onto Gattaca, The Shining and The Fifth element. Comes out to just below 50. I bought a Ps3 so I’ve been shopping Blu-Ray’s. Still looking for deals on a few of the HDDVDS I still want. Remember when 12.50 was a great deal for HDDVD as well? I think we may be slightly spoiled. I’ve bought all the HDDVD I wanted, except for 2-3 I just haven’t splurged on yet.

  11. Rick Says:

True if you want to re-buy movies you already own on DVD. I said 2 and should’ve added the fact that they are new releases! I am purple, have 3 HD DVD players and a PS3 and I don’t buy movies again on Blu-Ray if I own them on DVD. I want to remember them the way I saw them on DVD. Like remembering the way music sounds on vinyl record instead of CD!

Regardless there are still better buys on the HD DVD format. Blu-Ray has not come down in price enough for me.
