Amazon 10 Movie Deal With Player is Back

UPDATE: Amazon now offering the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on drive for $129. This is reportedly also available at Toys ‘R Us stores as well. — Hmmm.. It’s back to $179 (Dec. 5). Click-through any way, maybe it’ll go back to $129 or some other price.

Just a quick note to let you know that Amazon has brought back an HD DVD deal that originally surfaced around Black Friday. Buy an HD DVD player and get 10 free discs. You choose the player (HD-A3, HD-A30, HD-A35), and three movies at the time of purchase. Two movies come with the player (300 and The Bourne Identity) and five more are part the “5 free movies” deal that expires on March 31, 2008.

Not sure what the HD-DVD camp is thinking but am getting sick and tired of seeing worthless garbage like the Omega Man, and Blazing Saddles on HD instead of stuff like Indiana Jones or Jurassic Park. Who ever is making these decisions needs to take a good luck at their competitors library of available titles. I personally don’t care for 30 year old movies on HD unless its something like Star Wars.

In the case of the movies you’re specifically talking about, they’re are not yet available on any HD format at all.
Sometimes you wonder what the decision-making process is behind choosing the catalog titles that get released and why a studio choses one over another. It seems natural to release only the kinds of movies that show off picture and audio quality first, and then the more standard fare later.
Omega Man is remotely related to the upcoming I Am Legend, but I don’t know if most of the people who’ll see I Am Legend would necessarily care.
