The closeoutmovies storefront on Amazon has a whole bunch of Universal hd dvds for 2.97 new. Plus shipping it comes out to 5.98 a disc. Pretty good for a new disc from a trusted amazon seller. Titles like Dazed and Confused, Children of Men, Bourne Identity and Hot Fuzz. Most are Universal, but there are some 3.47 paramount titles as well. Wish I found this before buying used from blockbuster.com. Even though those worked great, would always want new vs. used. I couldn't figure out a way to sort by price, so you just have to sift through. I found this last Sunday as well, held off a day, and price rose to 7 bucks during the week. They have the xbox 360 ad on with heroes and BG for $50 at fry’s. I think they have had this before or someone did.

Yeah, I’d love to see HD DVD make a comeback but it’s never gonna happen. Even if Toshiba wanted to, the studios just aren’t going to do it. They’re not ones for gambling.

I’ve accepted that fate as I have Blu and Red now, but I’d like to see Toshiba release some more HD DVD players in the future so we don’t have to freak out if ours stop working. Gotta admit, I’m a little concerned about that. To everyone else, Toshiba could just be releasing great upconverting players but they just also happen to play HD DVD’s. Even if a smaller company were to do it, it would be fine.

I’d just like to know that I don’t have to buy up a few of the existing players as insurance to protect from one not working anymore.

Theoretically, a lot of things are possible. I don’t think it’s accurate to say that Blu-ray sales are at a standstill. Blu-ray sales are not extraordinarily high, considering there’s only the one HD media format, but they’re progressing enough for more electronics manufacturers to feel confident about putting out $200 players at Target and Walmart.

Dark Knight did really well, and since there was only Blu-ray to put it out on, that format gets to point to the big sales numbers enjoyed by that title. That movie is good enough to have done well on just about any format. I mean, if it only came out on Xbox and Netflix, then those companies would be pointing at mega sales.

I think Toshiba has probably shuttered way too many of their HD DVD operations, and has moved on to focusing on other technologies.

if you think about it – Toshiba could possibly resurrect HD-DVD.

Blu-Ray sales are at a stand still, the prices for Blu-Ray movies and players are sooooo expensive.

I bet that Toshiba could make a fortune by bringing HD-DVD back into the market – the players are cheap, and the movies are too.

Anybody else agree with me???

You can get movies CHEAP from http://www.frys.com

There is a feature called “In store pick up” under the shipping settings – if you choose this setting shipping if free, but you have to pick up the movie at a Fry’s location.

The highest amount for shipping was around $10.

Also, you can get a HD-DVD from Fry’s for as little as $2.

If you do order from the non-affiliated seller, you can click on their name to see a list of movies being sold by that seller.
I figure if you are already paying shipping for one movie, you can order a few more and get discounted shipping.

Alas, in my case he only had one movie that I really wanted, so I could not take advantage.
But at 3.98 for movie plus media mail, my whole order came out to 6.50 or so. Not too bad.

You can also try the link below to give you a list view of all HD DVD movies instead of thumbnail. This works well for me as I am an Amazon Prime member and it is easy to see which ones are eligible for Prime shipping. If you are also a Prime member, this link will tell you which ones are and aren't. I think id like to pick up Assault on Precinct 13 and Atonement. I’m on the fence to Dragonheart, but those are pretty good deals.
